Busan, Where Mountains, Sea, and Harbor Life Unfold at an Unhurried Pace

Busan is located on the southeastern coast of Korea and is the country’s second-largest city. Known for its harbor scenery, hillside neighborhoods, and urban landscapes, the city blends a vacation atmosphere with urban vitality. From strolling along beaches and riding coastal trains beside the sea to admiring illuminated bridges at night, Busan moves at a relaxed and dynamic rhythm, perfect for slow exploration.

Discover Busan

Haeundae is the starting point for many travelers. Golden sands and skyscrapers form the city's most iconic coastal view. Haeundae Blueline Park runs along this stretch of coastline. Departing from Mipo, the colorful and compact Haeundae Sky Capsule travels along the upper track toward Cheongsapo, offering elevated views of the sea and skyline. After a brief stop in the fishing village, visitors can transfer to the lower-level Haeundae Beach Train, featuring a retro exterior and ocean-facing windows, to continue to Songjeong or return to Mipo while enjoying the scenery of East Busan.

Gwangalli showcases another harbor scene with its crescent beach and the Gwangandaegyo Bridge (Gwangan Bridge). Visitors can walk the waterfront and visit Millak Waterside Park and Millac The Market. At night, the bridge lights up the sea, creating one of Busan’s most recognizable city views. The weekly Gwangalli M Drone Light Show adds a dynamic highlight to the coast.

To explore further, visit Songdo and Yeongdo. The Songdo Skywalk and Busan Air Cruise (Songdo Marine Cable Car) offer panoramic ocean views. Taejongdae Resort Park on Yeongdo is famous for its cliffs and dramatic coastal scenery. Gamcheon Culture Village features colorful hillside houses and alleyway art. This route connects the coast and urban landscapes, revealing Busan’s multi-layered character.

Don’t miss the traditional markets. Jagalchi Market captures the daily rhythm of harbor life, while Gukje Market and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market offer snacks and local goods. Popular street foods include fish cake soup, tteokbokki, and ssiat hotteok. Busan’s signature Dwaeji Gukbap (pork rice soup) is a must-try for its rich broth and tender pork.

The best travel season

Busan has four distinct seasons. Spring (late March to May) is mild with cherry blossoms, especially along Namcheon-dong Cherry Blossom Road. Summer (June to August) features open beaches and the weekly Gwangalli M Drone Light Show. Autumn (September to November) is the most pleasant season, highlighted by the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October and the Busan International Fireworks Festival in November. Winter is colder with fewer crowds, ideal for enjoying market food or visiting the Haeundae Light Festival and Gwangbok-ro Winter Light Tree Festival.

City transportation

Busan offers convenient transportation via subway and buses. Major sites like Haeundae, Gwangalli, and Jagalchi Market are easily accessible by public transit. For Taejongdae Resort Park or Songdo, buses and taxis provide easy connections. Clear routes and signage make independent travel straightforward.
